Biography

The Long Hill Ramblers are singer Laura Hockenhull, fiddle-player Ben Paley, and multi-instrumentalist Dan Stewart.

Growing out of a one-off collaboration between Laura and Ben for the 2008 charity compilation album The Blind Jack Band, the Ramblers originally consisted of Laura, Ben and guitarist Tab Hunter. The trio became a quartet with the addition of Dan, in time to record the Downs Barn Demo in 2012; and the band’s only CD album to date, 2013’s Beauty & Butchery.

Other commitments took Tab and Dan away briefly — their place was taken by Dan Edwards, and soon afterwards Tab returned for the recording of the Darling Sorrow digital EP in 2019.

Dan Edwards was forced to suspend his musical career for health reasons (although we’re happy to report that he’s playing again now), and Tab left to enjoy the tolerant atmosphere of the Netherlands, leaving Laura and Ben looking for musicians to play with… when Dan Stewart agreed to rejoin the band. The new trio released the Wagon Yard EP in 2022.

So that’s us. We hope you enjoy our music.
